Went to the IBC today and heard great news. Boris FX has aquired Media100 from Optibase. I think this could mean there's still some future in the media100 products. Hopefully they'll restore some R&D and new developments will follow.

Didn't read a press release though, but it was confirmed by a media100 represantative. Just keeping low profile I suppose.

Although I have used FCP/AJA on the last few projects to great satisfaction, I still have and use my M100i(x3) and hope to that this great software company can embrace M100 and produce something fantastic for those of us who have been using M100 and continue to use it.

Under the right circumstances I would put money into M100 products.

I have not purchased M100HD because I feel it is overpriced and M100 has fallen out of the mainstream.

I think it is important for BorisFX to embrace the P6000 and 844x clientele for the line to survive and flourish. (get as many people re-registered as you can, and quickly)

I probably would have bought an 844x if it was on OSX/Mac, and from what I have heard it is an amazing piece of hardware.

Renewed support for p6000/844x/Dare I say ICE - please!!

Why not allow FCP to "see" the M100 Hardware? (FCP is the wave right now, and is here to stay).

OMF support PLEASE!

Layers with advanced masking/effects/geometrics, great(est) colour correction, advanced motion effects , elegant HDV - Please!

Automatic Duck support to go to and from the majors with programs and bins, por favor!! You have to have interaction with the main platforms.

Hi,
I generally monitor the Boris COW forum; this is the first time I've posted to the Media 100 forum. While this is an interesting thread, nothing is official. If we have any news to report, I promise we'll post a press release here (and on the Boris forum) with all relevant information.

Meanwhile, we have announced the availability of Boris Final Effects Complete (FEC) version 4.02. FEC includes more than 100 native plug-ins for Adobe After Effects, Apple Final Cut Pro, Discreet Combustion as well as Boris Red, FX and Graffiti. A future version will add support for Adobe Premiere Pro. A second version, Final Effects Complete AVX (FEC AVX), will add support for the AVX 1.0 architecture.

You can download a 14-day trial version from http://www.borisfx.com/esd/main.php
Thanks,
Anne Renehan

Hi Anne,

thanks a lot for stepping in here, and I hope you keep us updated ;-)

Btw. is there an updater for your existing FEC 4.01 users to update to the new version?

Media 100 needs to stay alive if for no other reason than to have more NLE choices and competition on the Mac. We, too, have moved on to FCP but still have a lone M100 XR that's alive and kicking . I haven't let it go just in hopes that the company would indeed undergo a true revival.

Of course nothing has been finalised in the purported purchase of M100 by Boris FX.
There of course many synergies between the companies, many smiles about relinking old employees with M100 and shared paths.

I'm sure we all hope Boris takes charge of one of the few NLE's that provides competition to FCP.

As we move forward i would like to suggest to Boris, as they do due diligence on OBase's Media100 unit, to include several key moves with any new ownership. They may only return investment funds and not make a deal of money for the bottom line but they would do wonders for rebuilding the goodwill of a once proud brand.

One would be to Immediately release an OMF option created by Diaquest for free to all users who stayed with M100 Mac HD during the tough times. Do an amazing deal on the Software only licence to existing users.

Then aim to release Vers 4 for 844x in 2006. Perhaps even combine it with completing work on an Auto Duck plug in. This will allow 844 users to keep working thru 2006-7 and would add inter-operability between other NLE's which has been long called for.

I think we all know it's too complicated and too expensive to take 844 any further with hardware but Vers 4 was a few months from release and many existing users actually paid for it with their platinum contracts.

Dont be shy either in asking this very loyal and valuable resource, the Cow M100'ers
what they think, want or dont want. Actually we know what we dont want.
More of we've just had!

Even if Boris acquires Media 100, I will still never, ever purchase an Optibase product due to their incompetence. They can dry up and blow away as far as I'm concerned.

As for Boris, if this does happen, please, please strongly give consideration to reviving the 844/x. There is no current product on the planet that even comes close to its capabilities. I would acquire every update you release for it as well as a compatible Boris Red which I know you were working on but was never released. I was even on track to acquire the 844/x HD until Optibase pulled the plug on the project. It would've been a show stopper at the last NAB.

Hi,
Sorry it's taken me so long to respond to the FEC question. I've been travelling from IBC. Anyhow, existing users can upgrade from FEC version 3.52 or later for $99. We haven't yet posted an upgrade version to our website, but you could download the full Trial version until we post it shortly. (Our website is down for a little while as our building was apparently struck by lightening. We should be up shortly.)
Thanks,
Anne

Anne,

Does the upgrade to FEC 4.02 still have the PACE licensing system?

Beginning with verison 4.02 FEC no longer uses PACE licensing. We now offer our own streamlined cross-platform installers and licensing, including an easy-to-use electronic software download (ESD).
Thanks,
Anne

Thank you Anne,

Will be buying the upgrade then... been without FEC for 4 months... couldn't get any answers from Media 100 on moving it over to a new G5.

Well, I too have heard the "good news" about BorisFX and I'm confident this is on the up&up! I agree with many of you about 844X and have high hopes for HD on the Mac platform (I cut my first HD show on it and I had ZERO problems!)

I am a user of both the i system going back to 1997 and the 844X from the very beginning and I have to tell you that both products have their uses. The workflow on 844X is untouchable even as it stands today. The "pricepoint for performance" is unmatched and I love it...even though I'm a Mac man! My personal media 100 at home is a Mac (and I've got 3 more around the house!)

Like many of you, I'd love to see "Elise" finished (though bootlegs have been floating around) officially and you are right about the hardware issue. Will it happen? Only if there is a demand and there was not alot of resonse from many 844X users when the ex-engineers tried to do something a few months back. I wish that had happened too!

BorisFX is a software company so I have some concerns about the future of 844 & even "iHD" as it stands today. Now that the software is (or soon to be) 100% free of the M100 hardware, my first thoughts are, "will the hardware go away completely?" "Will we be using Media 100 with Kona and BlackMagic cards for capture in the future?"

Maybe...would that be bad? Not really except for those who bought into 844 and the promises of HD (we have 2.)

Future?

I will say this, I can finally rest in the fact that the Media 100 product at least lies in good hands and we can all hope that they live up to a great legacy and continute down the right path, continue development (hard and soft), keep a great product going and perhaps help some users have some closure.

well put dagoberto, i've not see you post before so welcome too!

So imagine a real time After effects or Motion competitor? BorisFx on 844 boards?
Unlikely but nice to dream :-)

I believe the final touches to the press releases are just days away. Then we can all
re-focus on the job at hand.

BorisFx please give us a real road map of where M100 will be pointed
as soon as humanly possible - and congratulations

mmm

I would wait and see

my gut feeling, Boris will not buy 844/X as that is gone and will buy only the HD mac hardware and leave it as an "as is product". not even the old p6000. maybe some tweeks with software and free plug-ins but no rt hardware effects on the boards.

Im sure they are getting it for nearly nothing anyway

I doubt there will be a big difference in buying HD only and buying the whole Media 100 range, since I have the feeling Optibase will be happy to find a new home for them.
