Rob Dupuis3 Camera Setup into my PC

Hi,

I'm trying to have a simple 3 camera setup and it's been working perfect up to now because I've been editing in post. But I want to switch that up with some live-editing to save myself an immense amount of time.

Cameras:
Canon t3i
Canon t2i
Canon 5d

This is what I'm thinking of getting:
- 3 hdmi input pci cards (http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=44_563&item_id=028307)
- ManyCam Pro

I'm running a:
Asus P8Z77-V LK
Intel Core i7-3770
Corsair Vengeance 16GB
Adata S510 120GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s

Does this make any sense? OR what else would you recommend?

I found an app called VidBlaster. I think the home edition would work just fine but does anybody have any experience with this software?

Instead of taking 3 cameras into your PC use a Black Magic Design ATEM TVS (Television Studio) switcher. It will take 4 inputs (HDMI) in HD and output a single HDMI switched output which I would then take into the PC for capture. The gui for switching as another PC which can be very low capability. We use a $300 Walmart laptop.

The ATEM lists for $995. Not a whole lot more than all the capture cards and much simpler and more stable than taking them all into the PC. You can stream directly from the ATEM if you wish.

My $.02 worth

Not having any experience with live-editing, but AFAIK the Canons neither provide a clean HDMI feed, nor do they output HD via the HDMI-connector. I think it's 480p, if I remember correctly.

I learned something new today, concerning HDMI-out.

I would still go the traditional route, feed those cams into a (relatively) inexpensive Edirol 4-input HD switcher, and the computer only has one input to worry about.

Far from it. But the Edirol is a low budget switcher and if you have any kind of proper business model, you're billing enough to either rent one or eventually on one. You don't have to be rich. Your clients have to have some money, though.
