Does anyone know of reasonable Matte Box's that will work with the Black Magic Cinema Camera, or, the measurement from bottom of camera to middle of lens opening? Black Magic does not give out those specs yet, so all help for adapters etc. is stifled. Chroziel has a very expensive box, but there must be something reasonable out there.
Thanks all.
Craig

Ikan and Wooden Camera sell very reasonably-priced solutions. There are others if you search on the web.

Peter, neither Ikan nor Wooden Camera make any matteboxes. Both of those cameras make support gear and rigs but no mattebox.

Look instead at Genus as a more budget friendly alternative to Chrosziel and Arri. The Redrock Micro has treated me well but is far to heavy for my tastes now. The Oconnor O-Box is what I really want now but again, it's money at $1,000.

Thanks Mathew, I discovered you are right, I'll try Arri, 1000$ isn't out of reach I'm just wondering if the box I have for my 5D could be adjusted to fit the BMCC?

Which box do you have? There are many baseplates for the BMCC. Just get a BMCC baseplate that will adhere to your rails standard. Be it 15mm LW, 15mm Studio, or 19mm Studio, Wooden camera makes proper risers and any of their specified baseplates will work.

I've purchased the matte box made by Digital Juice. Seems solid enough. $500.

I've been very happy with the Movcam Mattebox MM1

I purchased through EVS here in Los Angeles.

I have bought a few things from camtree which is the same as the link below. I have a one of the first matteboxes they made and still holds up well and using it on my BMCC.

I'm about to purchase one of their swing away boxes next.

Thanks John, I too have a ProAim matte box I'm using on a 5D, however, I was wondering about the conversion considering the distance to center of lens and bottom of camera I think is different. I'm not sure what camera you have, but if you have the BMCC production 4k camera, did you have any trouble converting the matte box for that camera?
Thanks,

Craig,

I bought the 600 from them and have had no issue in mounting it. The only issue is fitting the external ikan battery source and the matte box. It can be done, but a tight fit with the small rail system.

I bought the camtree shoulder rig to fit the need of an external battery source, EVF, etc. Since I happen to have been in contact with them, I asked what matte box they would recommend. I will let you know as soon as I hear back.

As this is a relatively small camera one of the two compact matte boxes from Genus would be a good match. Get value for money and well made.
There is a 4x4 matte box to suit the Blackmagic camera

and there is also Genus matte box for P size filters

Thanks Steven, since no information about the measurements from bottom to mid lens seem to be around for the BMPC4K, I guess I'll just have to wait until I get it and work from there. Feels a little backwards to me, I like a camera to be production ready when I get it, buy, shoot, edit - yeah babe. Excited to work with this camera.

Craig, I just got my cage, shoulder harness and follow focus from Camtree. They've taken a huge leap in their quality. I own and have in possession the BMCC 2.5k EF version. My older camtree/proaim mattebox works fine with the set up EXCEPT I would prefer the ability to swing the box out of the way when changing lenses.

Hey John, thank you for the response, I did buy the proaim box for another camera, and would like it to fit, like you say, into the BMPC 4k and it sounds like it will. Thank you so much, that's a financial relief, lot's to buy to make new camera production ready, whatever can transfer is very, very helpful.

WHAT cage did you buy and how do you know it will fit the BMPC4K? I can't find the measurements that would help me, and did you have to buy right angle 1/4 inch audio cable to make it fit? Thank you so much, and information is a financial relief, lot's to buy to make new camera production ready so shared information here is so good.
Thanks again,
Craig S.

Hey John and Craige, THANKS A LOT. Your conversation really helped me a lot, from last two months I was confused which brand matte box I should buy. Previously I was using Redrock matte box quality was good but its price is high my budget didn’t gave me permission.
Last week my camtree camshade matte box reached to me. Its quality is also well built and this is a great matte box bundle for price. I am very happy. Once again thanks.
