Will Smoke 2013 (or 2012, for that matter) even launch on a 1,1 Mac Pro, or is the ability to boot into the 64-bit OS X kernel essential?

I'm going to guess that 64bit is essential. We ran into this very same issue with Avid Symphony 6. It would not install onto the one Mac Pro 1,1 we still have in the shop.

Ugh, that figures. Still on MC 5.5 here.
Such a shame that Smoke 2013 is soon going to be limited to new iMacs and legacy Mac Pros on the desktop.
Well, I guess Autodesk won't have to worry about Smoke on the Mac cannibalizing its Smomk on Linux sales...

Thank you, Marc-André. My Mac Pro is a first-geenration machine, circa 2006. It is not among the supported machines listed, but I'm curious to know whether or not it will even allow me to install/launch it. I guess I'll find out soon enough once the beta becomes available.

I was able to runt he 30day demo of Symphony on my mac pro 1.1. So it may be just the OS version. though, i would highly recommend a 64 bit machine.

UPDATE: I was successfully able to install and run Smoke 2013 on my 1,1 Mac Pro (ATI 4870). It's running amazingly well, much to my surprise. Certainly good enough for training purposes.
