Larry,
Looking across the forums, it seems like you've asked this in a few places. Since some have already given you some ideas for DVDs/videos to watch, I'll throw another idea to you. It seems like you're wanting a technical answer for an artistic question, so I'll go a different route.
If you're not opposed to books,
The Five C's of Cinematography is a phenomenal resource, not just for the camera person, but for the editor as well. In my personal collection.
In the Blink of An Eye is another book - one that has been recommended to me. I have not personally read it, but people who I trust have said it is a good read for editing.
These books can give you more of an abstract view at why things are done, why that cut was chosen, why etc etc. It's one thing to know "how to do that artistic technique," but much like following a tutorial online, you're just following steps. When you know
why that artistic technique was implemented, then you're much further down a path to your own learning and editing.
Cheers,
Jordan Quackenbush
