Sony Z1U Bad Firewire Port

I bought a Sony HVR Z1U brand new just about 2 years ago. The firewire port seems to have gone bad. Have tried different machines and dozens of cables. My question is does anyone know if these ports can be repaired/replaced? If so, how much and where? (I'm assuming Sony?) Is this something I could do myself? Thinking about just selling it--if it's too much of headache.
