Hi all -

I recently purchased a slightly used Sony DSR20 and am really having trouble getting a picture to record to it.

Audio records perfectly, but with video all I get is a green pixellated screen.

The manual instructions for setup are less than ideal, it assumes that the record deck is being used primarily as a dubbing device.

I want to use it as a primary record device in the truck, instead of DVD.

I have tried to take output from switcher into the video input on the DSR-20 using either BNC or S-video. Both only record audio no video.

Are there menu settings that I am missing during setup?
Using Sony DVCAM 184ME tape - manual talks about tape formatting, but provides no instructions.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

TIA

Do you have the proper input selected on the panel? also make sure you are not in the "EE" mode, if you are in the "EE" mode nothing gets to the heads, if everything is set right and you still have video problems try cleaning the heads, if that doesn't work you may have other problems, did you try the machine before you bought it?

EE mode? How do I determine that?

I was not there when it was bought, but the person who was said it was tested in front of them.

Thanks!

hi there

EtoE stand for electronic's to electronic's.
and show your input on the output when the transport is not running.

or in other words don't worry about that because your transport is running while in record (-:

have you all ready tried a already recorded tape (if you have one)
does this playback proper ???

when you put something on the input do you see it on the output ???

a other thing.
be careful with cleaningtape's.
they are like sandpaper to your head's.
use them only when needd and as short as possible.
and never wind these things back

Well, we were planning on using this deck to record archives to - so I don't have any tapes with recorded content.
No DVCAM cameras.

We bought it to archive live line cuts during a broadcast for archival purposes prior to editing. Meaning outputs on the switcher or DA to DSR-20

We have used the deck to offload miniDV tapes, and it records audio archives perfectly to either DVCAM or miniDV format, but we have never gotten it to record video, so I am wondering if it could be a menu setting or some other issue, meaning incorrect setup on my part.

Manual assumes that deck will only be recording from a playback VTR, but I can't imagine that would make a difference? Or would it?

Hi all -

we ended up getting a second deck.
The "fix" is in the menu - there is a DV to EE setting that must be set to ON in order to record video, in addition to setting the source, such as s-video, composite, etc.

It turns out that the first deck no worky in record mode, just playback.

:)
