This is very strange. I have a PAL VX1000 as my second camera and wish to shoot in 16:9. There is a '16:9 WIDE' item in the menu but when I go into it the only option I seem is OFF. Strangely enough the only option I have for 'D ZOOM' is also OFF but ZEBRA has ON and OFF options;(.

I don't remember the VX1000 as having a widescreen menu function, you might have a late version, if it has it listed in the menu, try turning off the steadyshot function, the switch is inside the back cover, alot of older sony cams that had electronic anti-shake used extra pixels on the imaging chips for the function, and if the cam had a widescreen mode it wasn't available if the anti-shake was on.

You must have a late model the one I had didn't have 16:9, I had to use a anamorphic lens, also you can check if it is one that does true 16:9 vice the Sony vertical crop which loses vertical res, what I do is use a TV target(RETMA) a just fill the 4:3 view finder with it, then flip the 16:9 on, if the target remains full size with extra space on the sides its true, if the target still fills the screen horizontally and loses part vertically its a crop job.
