using Sony vx2100 or a PD 170 with Firewire as external device
by rolf bron on Sep 23, 2008 at 5:01:39 pm

I'm editing with FinalCut Pro 6. Using AV video playback settings>Apple FireWire PAL I connected my camera, and expected to be able watch my sequence on an external tv monitor connected to my camcorder: a vx 2100, or a pd 170. I haven't been able so far to see anything, neither on the camcorder's display, or the monitor. Firewire is working (capture and device control are working), and external video is on (all frames). Any suggestions welcome!

That class camera has a menu setting that needs to be right for this purpose. I do not have my PD150 with me at the moment so I cannot check where it is but I think it is under VCR setup. Camera must be set to VCR. Firewire from computer and composite or Svideo from camera to monitor..

I've found this out so far; I guess what iI have to do is enable dv-in via firewire in the menu. Unfortunately I can't find anything like it. Ther is a A/V>DV OUT which can be switched on or off. Tried both to no avail.

Sorry, I was a bit quick in drawing conclusions; a post from someone in dvinfo.net got me a bit further; If the A/V -> DV OUT setting is OFF I get the camera to work as a pass-through while editing!
So that solves my problem, thnx, Rolf
