What other semi-pro video cameras compare to Canon's GL2? I've heard bad things about the GL2 battery life, tape system crapping out and auto focus lags which is very bad for action shots.

I have only had my GL2 for a few months. IMHO it is the best bang for the bucks for I can put in on full manual for fstop, shutter speed, white balance and sound control. I can then upgrade to XLR sound system very reasonable. Coulpled with my Toshiba laptop, I have a very workable field system.
