looking for capture software that can be used like VCR

What I have is my Satalite receiver connected to my Canopus ADVC100 to my firewire card. I use the ADVC100 normally to capture video from older Camcorders, however I thought I might try to get more use out of the AV/DV converter by recording shows from the satalite receiver. I would like to be able to use a piece of capture software that allows me to set the start and stop time just like a VCR, Capture to DV Type I or II AVI, and obviously select the location for saving to. It is understood that the Satalite Receiver would have to be set to the Channel with which I want to record. Thanks for any help.
