I need to export one of my projects onto a DVCAM tape for a film festival, can someone explain to me this process from FCPX?

Do I export my project as a .mov media file first, then use this file to get it put on DVCAM? Or do I need to connect my computer to equipment that makes a DVCAM tape and export it directly onto a tape? Sorry, I know nothing about this, any help you could give would be appreciated.

FCPX does not offer any print-to-tape functionality!
You could try in iMovie. I think there is a tool for that.

I always use an old Windows laptop with a firewire port. Windows moviemaker does it.......you just need to create a file in FCPX that can be read with Windows. Probably a MPEG program stream.

The only to do it is to put a file based system in between the mix.
Basically dump the file onto a DVD or BD then play back to DVCAM.
The other way is to use Blackmagics cheap Intensity PCI card or Shuttle/Extreme.

Regarding the iMovie you need, it is iMovie HD 6. It used to be free from Apple but not anymore.

As an alternative to making a DVD and then going DVD to DV, I would try to find someone in your area that has FCP 7, or Premier. You could give them a DV Quicktime and they can put it to tape.

As an aside, DVCAM is pretty old technology. It's only SD, and very odd that they would want that. I would go ahead and submit a DVD also to them.

What is DCP-NTSC and how would that work flow go from FCPX?
