Video doesn't play in final cut pro x!
by Hoo Mukai on May 21, 2012 at 4:52:51 pm
I just got final cut pro x and the video doesn't work! All that shows up is an exclamation point on a red background where video should be. Everything worked in final cut pro 7 so I don't know what the problem is.

Is this original/optimized media or proxy media? Are playback preferences set to optimized/original or proxy?

Then the video is offline. Is it in the event folder?

It is showing that the media is offline, How did you get the media into the project? Where is the media located? Has any other programme accessed that media since you imported it? Have you tried re-importing it?

The media is on my desktop and I've dragged and dropped it and also just imported it normally. If I import mp3's or pictures, they show up but any video file has that weird exclamation point.

Can you create a new user on your Mac, open up FCPX as the new user and then try importing the footage again. It's not a solution but it might indicate there is a problem with your install

I experienced with an older FCPX install.
Caused by meddling with the QT clip in the Event folder in After Effects.
Something got weird with the files and prevented FCPX from reading them.
Fixed with 10.0.2 upgrade.

I'd suggest looking at the clip's info in FCPX and checking that FCPX thinks the clips are where they actually are. I'd also try re-linking the clips from within FCPX. if all else fails, I'd re-encode one of the clips and see if it's just something weird in the original transcoding to ProRes.
