Presents!!!
by Chris Harlan on Dec 23, 2012 at 9:17:48 pm
Oh, Tim can we have some? Please? What is Merlinpeen without a present or two?
I say, unless I get horribly beat down by the powers that be, that we exchange an OT gift or two. All should be welcome: Happy, sad, glory of God, RubeGoldburgy, pull-my-finger, Python-esque, whoa-ain't-that-cool, mystery of life, celebratory maudlin, and dang-there-really-are-UFOs. All I ask is that they be sincere.

Lovely! I've just made a promise to myself to take a long drive and listen to the 9th in full sometime next week. Its been years since I've done that. Maybe a double feature. The 9th and Mahler's 2nd or 3rd, or the 9th and Marriage of Figaro. Either way, some clean beautiful sound in a contemplative environment--coast or desert--to salve the soul and mark the coming of the New Year.

Yes - a little sad really, because what it would have lacked in the non-studio audio quality it would have gained in the atmosphere of the event. Mind you, there are no close up cameras in the wide shots either, which implies that it was even more set up than it seems.
If you want to hear all of the Ninth on a drive, you should try commuting from here to the BBC in Shepherds Bush - could listen twice round sometimes.

"I saw this and loved it but ask yourself one question?
How did they get such clean, well balanced audio?"
This was posted on YouTube by BancSabadell:
On the 130th anniversary of the founding of Banco Sabadell we wanted to pay homage to our city by means of the campaign "Som Sabadell" (We are Sabadell) . This is the flashmob that we arranged as a final culmination with the participation of 100 people from the Vallès Symphony Orchestra, the Lieder, Amics de l'Òpera and Coral Belles Arts choirs.
Sounds - and looks - like it was synced with field playback to a studio recording.

My favorite YouTube clip from 2012.
Local journalism in service to stomping out the abuse of power.
And the local reporter is in need of some serious recognition - talk about style WITH substance!
Wish he worked in my town.
Happy Holidays.

That was fabulous, John! I just put my daughter's haul out under the tree, and sat down and watched that. It was quite a bit of fun. I couldn't stop smiling. Thanks!

When you mentioned Rube Goldberg, that reminded me of this animation. It's a bit long, but it's pretty cool- especially the ending. :)
