I think we'll start to see more of this with fresh projects. Meaning, projects that are starting up with no ties to other NLEs.
If it works out in the long-run for FCPX, I think it'll start with the smaller houses (such as mine), independent filmmakers, editors, etc... like it did with FCP legacy. It just needs enough people to say, "I used it. It worked great for X, Y, and Z and I couldn't use the other guys' NLEs because of these reasons..."
I'd start a job in it and hire editors for it, given the right project/client/etc...

I did one back in June on LA craigslist, but for a PA to do keyword tagging. Some interesting responses were hurled at me.

We're a small production company and we've switched from legacy to X and have been hiring two different freelance editors for various projects. In addition to ramping up on X, they know legacy and PPro. So, another data point.

Well...I just did hire a guy.
Condition: FCPX, Motion, After Effects.
Yes there are more paid FCPX jobs out there than you might think.

[alban egger] "Condition: FCPX, Motion, After Effects."
Just curios, why the requirement for both Motion and AE, and how are you using them together? Also, how are you getting work in and out of FCPX to AE?

Unfortunately the "Send to Motion" deson´t exist (yet).
So what we do is setting up FCPX effects in Motion and publish them into the FCPX effects tab. Works great. But we do miss to send clips out of the timeline.
AE....simple alphamasks (ProRes4444).
This was edited in FCPX, tracking and titles in After Effects, Grading on a real DaVinci, Sound in ProTools.

I was only one of two camera-operators here, but the edit and final mastering was done by my colleague, who is on FCPX since July 2011 just like me.

....but...alban....
How did you ever get this professional edit done without tracks and a degree in human interface design?

Seriously though, nice work. It looks and sounds great. Was that another F3 gig? No matter what camera, it turned out awesome.

Note that the company doing the 'hiring' is not primarily engaged in the production business. Also that there is no reference to salary, or salary range. And of course it's on Craigslist.

"I've heard you need to know Final Cut to be an editor. What's the latest version called? Oh 'X'? Well, make sure that's listed to."
I'm sure it's something like that.

I dont get why this baffles people in the business.
If I was a VFX start-up and didnt know better, yes folks that happens all the time, I would opt FCPX for its simplicity.
Back in the day (from my background), most 3D/Motion design houses didnt have an Avid or Media100.
They had Premiere (pre CS) as a simple editor.
This was also the norm on the Unix side, sorry forgot the software that was used then.

When you post an ad for FCPX, seeing who references the correct program in their response email is a pretty good way to screen the applicant. An FCPX person will specifically mention it in their response. A legacy person will say they're experts at Final Cut Pro, which means you'd have to train them and deal with Crying Editor Syndrome (CES).
CES is a real disease. Symptoms include inability to learn new things, difficulty reading words written on a wall, and obsessive visits to this forum.

[John Davidson] " and deal with Crying Editor Syndrome (CES). "
Not to be confused with CES (Cranky Editor Syndrome). Symptoms include tremendous will power to hold back installing updates despite improved "functionality", the customer is always wrongisms, infrequent but poignant Facebook outbursts to software "engineers", and obsessive trips to the soda jerk.
CES is one thing, but CES is a whole 'nother ball o' wax.

As opposed to IDKWTFISGON syndrome. To spell it out this is "I don't know what the f*** is going on" syndrome. I deal with this every day of my life these days. Jeez - talk about not wanting to learn.

Not only Craig's List but also "creative editor." In my experience that is a phrase of which you need to be aware.

Here's one from here in San Diego that mentions X as a requirement- but it also lists Legacy and Premiere pro as well:
