Cheers Steve. Will wander over on Friday..

Does anyone know how long the offer lasts on creative cloud for £27 a month if you have an old CS?

I hadn't really looked at this before, because I wasn't in love with PPro, but I just checked out what you get in the creative production suite -

Premiere Pro CS6
After Effects CS6
Photoshop CS6 Extended
Audition CS6
SpeedGrade CS6
Prelude CS6
Illustrator® CS6
Encore® CS6
Flash® Professional CS6
Media Encoder CS6
Bridge CS6

And I think my part time university lecturing/training job gets me that lot for £333......Hmmm

Plus with PP, you don't have to hold it just so!

You really should check out the trial version. They did an incredible job with CS6

That's cool. I think the "upgrade to 5.5, and 6 for free"ers, like myself, have to wait a week or so for some sort of email invite.

The trial version is up now too, if you want to jump on board right away...

I'm not 100% for sure as I've never done this before, but I think you go to http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/upgrade-policy-product-an... and submit your info.

me too - I was told I would receive an email sometime this week.

can. not. wait. That thing is incredibly stuffed with goodies, and (please dear Lord let this be so) - it also contains my primary editing software for the next half decade.

I've been playing with Premiere CS6 for over a month and it gave me that same feeling Final Cut 7 did when it was released. Your eyes will pop out the first time you launch it. This is truly the Final Cut 8 we've really wanted. The Warp Stabilizer is your newest best friend. You'll put it on all your clips. Hope you have the Nvidia 4000 for Mac graphics card because that is where all the magic happens. The Stabilizer takes only a minute to analyze the clips and then it's real-time playback heaven. You'll see!!

First impressions are very good, like the new interface a lot. Speed seems much improved, providing it's stable I can see Adobe doing very well with this version

Indeed it is. Even without a CUDA card I'm really impressed by the performance of CS6. It scrubs through AVCHD like a hot knife through butter, and a lot of things just happen. Projects load faster, and I really like being able to adjust color correction during playback.

CS5, by comparison, is like a fat guy vegging on the couch, eating a box of mini donuts, who you have to ask a few times to do something before finally he slowly gets up and says, "ok, ok, I'm going..."

;)

don't know what the 'why' at the top of the sentence is doing there steve - just basically asking what everyone is running CS 6 on....

how is the timeline responsiveness with pro res? will she run real time with 1080p with a bit of CC thrown on and stuff?

OK without CC, add CC and it's not great at full res, not so bad at 1/2 res, nowhere near as good as FCPX CUDA will probably make the difference though.

yeah, but that's the killer here - I'm going to be on a second hand i7 imac 27" with thunderbolt. that means no openCL Adobe spec, or Cuda.

Lots of people here are going to get crummy performance because the app doesn't recognise the GPU for acceleration. Its going to feel, a tiny bit weird dropping my NLE down to half res like I do in AE. that still feels somehow wrong.

I know what you mean. I just XML'd my PPro ProRes sequence to FCPX and it runs considerably better, I can add primary and secondary CC with very little slowdown.

I will just stress again though I have no CUDA!

yeah, the CC with masks performance of X on bog standard iMac hardware is nothing short of stellar - I adore the masking setup, and it is ridiculously fluid and fast. Its one of the things that breaks my heart looking at X. some things they got so incredibly right - permanent CC attributes was one of them.

Its going to be interesting to see how people feel about premiere performance on existing near new mac hardware, outside of the few specified laptops. If its cruddy it'll raise questions. Adobe did spend an awfully long time brewing all the realtime architecture on a PC... for a PC. Apple hardware has been completely ignored for nearly a half decade now - and that's the entire FCP base.

be dead interesting to see how this plays out.

If you're curious about performance on really old hardware, check out my new article which just went up this afternoon. It's true I have to dial down the res to get it, but as long playback is real time, I'm happy and can work just fine.

Yes, but on a POSITIVE note, you'll have a source viewer that lets you set PERSISTENT in and out points, and you won't have to worry about the possible irreversible corruption of your project, or, EVENT, or whatever the heck they're calling it over there... ;)

I'm waiting on the email for the freebie 5.5 to 6 upgrade like chris and the others. Plus I don't think this lot is going on my lappie. CS 6 I think will have to wait for the imac, and I won't have that for a bit yet.... I will be engaging in some delayed gratification.

[Gordon Modin] "You'll put it on all your clips."

I share your enthusiasm for the awesomeness of the Warp Stabilizer but have all your clips been shot by a drunk monkey? You could I suppose put it on all your clips just for the fun of seeing your project bloat up like a dead pig but like all great things use of the WS is best done where it's needed.

Take a look at Todd Kopriva's blog on memory and storage tips for Warp Stabilizer and 3D Camera Tracker

Your comment about a drunk monkey rings true in this current edit. The shooter rarely used his tripod and, while not drunk, shook like a leaf in a storm. The Warp Stabilizer saved the day were Final Cut 7 would not even have imported the footage. Yes, the project bloated, but it still played back in realtime. I'm VERY impressed with CS6. Adobe engineers did an incredible job.

They most certainly did. Warp Stabilizer and the new 3D camera tracker in After Effects are terrific engineering accomplishments. As is the entire Speedgrade app....which feels like it was written in Assembly.

You got a problem with drunk monkeys? Don't make me start a forum called Drunk Monkeys Or Not: The Debate!

Wait, I forget - did we do that already?

[Tim Wilson] "ou got a problem with drunk monkeys? Don't make me start a forum called Drunk Monkeys Or Not: The Debate!"

As someone who shoots his films I frequently wish I had a drunk monkey to blame my material on. Alas I'm my own monkeycam and not even drunk. More's the pity.

As for naming a forum after drunk monkeys everywhere, I believe the name has probably been appropriated already by a kung fu style. If not, or the lawyers allow the difference between kung fu and camera work, I say go for it!
