In keeping with the spirit of a greatly expanded scope of discussion in this forum....

There's already been plenty of talk about what people want to see from Apple at NAB (Look! A magnetic Mac Pro!!!), but what's on your list to see from companies who'll actually be at the show?

And of course, if you're not going, what will you be watching for from afar?

Premiere Pro CS6!

I'm really hoping Adobe will either introduce their own intermediate codec, or have full support for ProRes and/or DNxHD (import, sequence settings, and export) built in- and have it so transcoding to intermediate files can be gpu-accelerated by the Mercury Engine!

(but please, Adobe, no magnetic stuff...)

Hello,

what I really would like to see at NAB are all the great hardware scalers
in our I/O-Hardwares being enabled to work F I L E - B A S E D!

We are very proud of our 100% file-based workflow here. But when it comes to video scaling,
every single software out there is simply a mess. I've tested them ALL...
I can't hear nor read "bicubic" and "bilinear" algorithm any more!!!

The point is, we already do have the best scalers with
content adaptive scaling and anti-aliasing in our workstations!
But we simply can't use them file-based; qt file in – processed qt file out.
(Exception: Matrox MAX; really nice but 8bit and H.264 only)
The current workaround sending a live signal out of the computer
to scale and re-capture it is simply a pain! It doesn't fit into the 21st century!

Best regards,
Bernhard

pretty much in order of desire:

- a rock-your-socks off CS6 PPro
- transition plugins for above from FXFactory, et al
- some moderately priced PL prime lenses to compete with Zeiss CP
- an inexpensive wireless follow focus
- something really cool no one has thought of before

I'd like to see what's going on in the world of LED lighting. Not necessarily frenels, but color temp adjustable panels for key/fill.

I would also like an avc-Intra based af100 type camera from Panasonic. AVCHD is just ok, I'd really like my p2 back! Panasonic also seems to not have a midrange larger chip camera as other manufacturers do.

I would also look for any sort of simple digital catalog softwares. CatDV is really sweet, but we don't need most of it.

I agree that some more options for lower cost PL/EOS mount lenses would be nice.

I'd go stare at the 24" FSI monitor.

And a magnetic MacPro preinstalled with Final Cut Awesome.

A lower cost C300 would be good, Canon are promising an announcement about something at the show.

To be honest my NAB and IBC wish list gets smaller every year, we live in a fantastic time for shooting and Post Production, there's a great range of cameras out there that can produce amazing images from the 5D3 to Epic and we have a feature packed range of NLE's and other software at very reasonable prices.

I'm still betting on a DSLR form factor with an XF, 50mbps codec, full sensor and EF mount.

I'll take two.

Likewise Jeremy.
Aside from Kinos, we've evolved to a mostly LED setup for location work.
I've invested a bunch in panels and am most interested in fresnels at this point. I'm about to try a couple of Solas but I'd like to see what's shown at NAB.

A camera that shoots 4K in 3D for under $3000 US, with 4 XLR inputs and that takes still camera lenses. Then I want a 4K 3D TV that will fill the west wall of my living room (even though my living room is 22 feet wide) so that I can see all my home video in full glorious 3D 4K. In fact, I'm sure that will be the new marketing term they come out with this year....3D4K.

I don't know what to say, actually. I'm in post, and on the betas of the NLEs I like, so I know what they are up to already. Uhm.... I'd like to see better third party plugin support for Avid Media Composer. The packages they have now are spendy! But I know why...that market is small. VERY small compared to FCX

3D4K...I tell ya...that's the new war cry.

2. CS6

3. Canon 4k?

4. AJA booth - I'll be there working :)

I just want clarity. At the mo it is da Vinci/ AVID DNx a short head on CS6 Speedgrade??

FCPX is not on the radar yet so it is down to the best package for grade and online with tape still a factor. I now have Kona3 and Decklink Extreme sitting in my MacPro but I am specing WIN hardware as the most likely candidate for either AVID or Adobe. My Tangent Wave is also wondering who it will be most useful to.

A rock solid, high-capaciity, cheap archiving solution that's as easy as hard drives and as robust as blu-ray-rom. I guess that violates the triad, but one can hope.

Hey, I'll get on that one too. The Japanese earthquake has made me think a lot about long-term storage and it would be nice to see some developments and agreements in this area that could lead to something more standardized. Also, I'd like to see some growth in methods of 2k/4k archiving.

I'd like to see enough competition on 4K monitors to drive the prices down a bit.

My friends! I want to see my buddies! 'll be working for AJA every day in their booth, so come by and shake hands.

I want to see all the 4k. It's the next thing. I remember when I saw HD for the first time in 1979. it took THAT long for it to become the norm.

Other than that, I want to see what all the other NLE companies are showing. I do believe Autodesk has a big announcement. They say will change everything... we'll see! If Apple doesn't show us a new Mac Pro, I might have to switch from FCP :-(

Worse... I'll likely have to run different computer OS.... YIKES. I hate when that happens. I suppose a two platform studio isn't out of the question, but man... I'll be very disappointed sans a new pro machine from A.

Jerry

I'm sure David will clarify, but I was under the impression that an authorized reseller cannot legally sell a Hackintosh in the US. Private individuals can create one here. They are also legally sold by resellers in the EU.

I think this is a Windows machine in a Mac Pro-like form factor.

Sheesh guys. don't just look at the pictures...click on things, like TECH SPECS:

http://www.promax.com/s-154-promax-one-tech-specs.aspx

Operating System: Windows 7 Professional® 64-Bit
Professional Media Software Supported: AVID MC 5.5+, Adobe Premiere CS5.5+, Assimilate
SCRATCH or SCRATCH LAB, Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve, Cinema 4D, CatDV, Telestream, Root6

I would think the Cow Regulars would know how to do that.

David showed this to me last week. I was quite impressed. Server logic board, thus how it can have a built in RAID 5/6. Avid MC6 and PPro CS5.5 (As well as Scratch, but since I don't know that, I didn't play with that). Avid chewed thru the RED footage. And as I am often to note, Avid MC is faster and smoother on a PC..for some reason.

Note: It is a bit more expensive than other computers, as this one is a computer and RAID 5 Storage all in one. So take that into account.

:)

A 1200Mb/s 6-drive RAID-5 onboard - but actually costs less than the direct competition. :)

Admittedly, it's been a while since I've worked with Windows and I'm sure "7" is an improvement from prior releases but the thought of it makes my stomach queasy.

Negatory Herb. And, you're not the first to ask that question, nor the last, I'm sure.

The "ONE," as people are now calling it, is our new professional Windows editing workstation. I'll be happy to tell you, or anyone else who wants to know more, about it privately. Just write me...
