Painting in Commotion
by Kurt Porter on Dec 1, 2005 at 6:43:34 am

Matt,

I used to use commotion to paint out hits on video footage in commotion a few years ago. I now need to do the same on a whole lot of shots. Since Commtion is dead, any suggestions? I could buy v4.1 off eBay for $99 but that just seems silly. I don't really need the roto tools, just the ability to paint with a frame offset and an overlay like commotion had.

I use FCP and AE so plugins for those are an option.

Thanks,

Kurt

AE 6.5 has a a very similar paint interface as Commotion. Many of the techniques, shortcuts and workflow are identical. The only catch is that it is vector based, so if you are working on hi-res plates it bogs down. If you are working on SD it should be fine for what you need. If you want to jump up to the next level, check out sillhouette roto... they have a new 16bit raster based paint module which is probably the top gun right now.
