How to eliminate microphone bumps
by Lewis Long on Jul 20, 2008 at 2:51:24 pm

What is the best way to reduce the microphone "bumps" in post audio. Is there a certain filter in Pro Tools.... Basically, I have a good dialogue track, but I want to reduce the "microphone bumps" so I don't have to use a different dialogue track and recut the movie.

Hello Lewis and welcome to the Cow Audio Forum.

You mean someone bumped the boom mic or is it body and/or clothing noise with a lav?

If they are within (or under) a word, there's not much you can do. Try rolling off the low end, but as you do that the voice and room tone will also get thinner and perhaps give you away.

In Pro Tools, you can automate the EQ to cut jsut at the moment you want and then go back to normal. It's pretty easy and you won't have to use a different dialog track unless the bumps are quite noticeable.

If in the bump is in the clear, then past in some room tone.

Ty Ford

Let me clarify what I meant...The person holding the boom mic, was also holding the boom mic cord..And when he would adjust his hands, the cord would make that bumping noise. Any other suggestions...

The is a restoration tool that can probably remove the bumps under dialogue. It's rather amazing. Check out:
http://www.izotope.com/products/audio/rx/ I bought it for our Pro Tools system as soon as I checked out the demos on the site.
