Super Beginner Pro Tools Question
by parker C on Dec 11, 2007 at 11:34:19 pm
Sorry,
I'm not really an audio engineer, but I'm forced to use Pro Tools every once in a while. I've found myself with a very annoying problem.
I must have switched something because the mute button on my tracks no longer functions. It won't turn on or off. My tracks that are muted are permanently muted, and likewise for my 'un-muted' tracks. Please help, this is ridiculously frustrating.

Thanks for the advice.
Also, I'd love to RTFM, but this system was put in so long ago, I'd have to get my Latin dictionary out. Just kidding, I'm just a picture editor, trying to keep from sinking in the audio room.

I believe it's 5.1.1. Again, I'm new to ProTools. I'm an Avid/FCP guy. I'm not even sure where ProTools is at now (I believe they are beyond "Version" Numbers?) I had an audio engineer come in to teach me the system about a year ago, and he was getting frustrated with the rig, so I assume it's a few versions back.
Anyway, thanks for your guys help. Don't be surprised to see me here again.

Hello Parker,
Features change, sometimes substantially, from one version to the next. The current version of PT is 7.4.
To reduce your frustration, mouse to the icon when the application is running and select "About Pro Tools." Then go online and find the documents.
It won't anwer all of your questions, but will fill in the cracks. There is also the Digidesign Users Conference (DUC) which can be accessed from their site. You have to register, which is free, but you can post questions and get answers from other Pro Tools users.
