All I can say is wow. These are substantial upgrades that will save people hours of time in the real world. Premiere Pro can now encode and decode Avid MXF files... huge.

Concerning Speedgrade, is the "Shot Matcher" an extension of the more experimental clip > color space? I feel like I should ask how well it works, within reasonable expectations, if I tried matching two shots that had a color chart in each.

Nice. What about scopes for Premier Pro CS7? Anything new happening with AME, for example support for intro / outro clips, defined clip interprating settings and so forth?

Actually - what about proper scopes for ALL apps? Premier, After Effects and Photoshop?

"Proper" may be a little vague...what is it that Premiere Pro's scopes need to better for you? (not a challenge...just a question).

They look shocking. Worst scopes I've seen in any app. Not sure what more to say about them. Uggly and unflexible. Maybe they are accurate? Still, they hurt my eyes looking at them. They don't feel like they belong in a modern app from 2013 - maybe some odd editor one would find circa 1997 on Windows 95.

If FCPX has one thing correct and that's the look of it's scopes.

Also, the complete suite of image editing apps (Photoshop, Lightroom, After Effects, Premier, Prelude, Speedgrade) could use a decent set of solid scopes. One is for validating or comparing images and of course any image-editing / grading / coloring or final output this is vital. It's quite shocking Photoshop hasn't seen any improvements in this area during it's 25-30 years of existence.

Kevin, the entire team did an amazing job with the update, not only listening to the editors needs but engaging the entire community to find out WHY we were asking for the changes. I can honestly say I've never had so much communication with a company during development of a product as I have this past year with Adobe.

I know it's very tough to move the application forward in a way that new users are asking for while also maintaining the tried and true workflow that your loyal users love. I think you've done a great job balancing the needs of both communities.

Look forward to seeing you guys next week!

Walter! Have they added a decent media-manager for output of projects now? I know this was a source of minor grief for your facility.

[Kevin Monahan] "We have the Project Manager. What are you looking for?"

A Transcode and Consolidate feature. Take the final timeline, turn it all into one codec / one format and consolidate that media into a single location.

This way you can have your final Master timeline in one format, one location.

I don't think that made this cut of the application but something I"ve had a lot of chats with your engineers over the past year. Sounds like something they might still be considering for the future, but honestly, your team addressed the most important needs with this release.

A few things:

- Export only used footage for archiving, online, grade of X sequences. A cut might have 500 GB of RAW footage where you only use 1/100th of this. This 1/100th might then be used in 20 different edits. This would include the ability to trim used footage files and transcode all footage to a unified codec.

- Batch-export features of the above with or with out any kind of media management being done.

[Erik Lindahl] "Walter! Have they added a decent media-manager for output of projects now? I know this was a source of minor grief for your facility."

Actually, we built an entirely new workflow to adapt to Adobe's media management and we're quire happy with that. I don't think the actual feature we've been asking for, "Transcode and Consolidate" the final timeline into a stand alone project will be in this version of PPro but from conversations with the engineers, it sounds like something they are still considering. But honestly, that process is no longer a priority for us, we adjusted our workflow and are quite happy with it.

Truthfully when I saw the clip mixer and the "relink media" from within the timeline, that made me literally jump out of my chair. Yes I was THAT happy and yes I'm a total geek. :)

Everything else the Adobe engineers have added with this release is just gravy and the efficiency just keeps getting better. Really makes me happy we made the switch to Premiere Pro.

This. +1.

I must have said the same thing about a dozen times today at the office. Glad I moved my shop from FCP7 to PPro back in 2011. No regrets so far.

Can you expand on this Walter? It is somewhat OT, but I'd love to hear about it as I am figuring out my new workflow since switching from FCP.

Kevin, I actually wrote a blog about our current workflow back in December. This will change a little bit thanks to the work Adobe put into this next version of Premiere Pro, but the basics are still the same.

Hi Kevin,

Question about the "Link and Locate" feature, will that relink to all files within a moved folder structure, or just within the same folder? Please say "It will relink to all files within a structure" I'd love it to work the way AE does.

Holy crap, this is awesome. Totally vindicates my decision to switch from FCP7 to PPro. instead of Avid!

But I'm still not clear about a huge annoyance that exists in CS6: Does the "next" version or PP allow you to finally "Assign Source" in the timeline using a keyboard shortcut?

I hope I can import image sequences from a folder all at once. I want to be able to drag a folder that contains 300 dpx sequences into a bin and get 300 clips ready to go.
