Hi everyone,

I am switching from FCP7 to Premiere CS6 and was interested in getting a portable Premiere set up for the road. Something I can carry on a plane but also that doesn't cost 2grand. I currently am using FCP7 on a 2008 MBP but would also like something that can serve as a backup in the field.

It doesn't need to do intense effects or color correction but more for quick edits or short event promos. I have Mac Pro tower for that but that isnt very portable.

I was thinking either a PC laptop, macbook or mac mini. Even a small micro ATX pc I can build. I realize the approved graphics list limits me so I am curious of what real experience you all are having.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance
-Chris

Before getting my rMBP, I used an i7 Mac Book Air 4GB with an external OWC Express USB 2.0 bus-powered enclosure with an OCZ 240GB Vertex 3 SSD. Worked well on the plane, in the hotel, and when connected to my 24" LED monitors at the office.

I ran FCP X, Motion, PP and AE very respectably.

Should run you around $1,700 for the newer 2GHz i7, 8GB MBA (you could save $100 there with the i5 CPU) and around $200 for the external SSD and you get the bullet-proof Apple quality.

I use an Asus G53, paid about $1100 for it. i7Quad, 16GB Ram, GTX460M 1.5GB VRam. Even uses the Mercury Playback Engine in Premiere Pro.
