Sloooow export
by Tim McCarthy on Aug 20, 2012 at 7:31:18 pm
I'm currently trying to export a wmv file (40 minutes long). Source is 1920x1080, trying to make a 800x450 wmv. It's telling me about 15 hours remaining right now. It's not fx-heavy, just three video layers and audio. It's never taken this long before. I just cleaned out the temp files (about 20gb). Should I stop it and restart? Or is there something else to try? Thanks.

Hi Tim,
Tell us about your system hardware - Mac, PC? Specs? Any special filters applied that you don't normally use? Just read another thread where a DeNoiser effect was the culprit, takes an exceptionally long time to render.

I have a PC running windows 7, Intel Core i7 CPU, 8 gb ram. I really haven't done anything fancy with this project. Just mostly cuts, some cropping and audio adjustments. The cropping may be a culprit now that I think about it. But right now, it's telling me that it's at 7% complete with about 13 hours remaining (I started it over an hour ago). I just don't remember it taking this long to export something. Thanks for your help!

Project > Project Settings > General
Look at "Renderer" and it will say "Software only" or "GPU Accelerated". Do you have an Nvidia display card, and if so, which model? Some that don't work automatically can still be coaxed into activity pretty easily.

Hi Tim,
Premiere runs a lot faster with the GU acceleration ON. Unfortunately, your GT 330 does not work with Mercury GPU acceleration. Adobe has several cards that they officially support, but many others with at least 1GB of memory will also work with a minor "hack" and these can be a good choice if on a tight budget.

Hi Tim,
I should point out that a new display card is not in itself a solution to all performance issues - your render time seems excessive in any event. Do you have a dedicated video drive for your media? There are many factors affecting performance, the GPU being just one piece of the puzzle. You do have a Core i7 which is a good start.

The way I tried to address the export issue is to maximize the speed and effectiveness of the Adobe Mercury Playback Engine. For me this was buying and HP Z820 system with the fastest processors,a fast GPU, 64GB of ram and fast media IO with the Dulce DQg2 raid arry. Im not sure there is anything else that can be done. Except avoid any slow plugins and 4K projects :D
