Premiere Pro CS5.5 extremely slow on MacPro

Hi there,

I'm having problems with Premiere Pro CS 5.5 on a Macpro. It's extremely slow when moving footage that is already in the timeline.

I'm running Premiere Pro CS5.5 on a Mac Pro:
12GB RM, 8 cores,
processor speed 2.4Ghz, intel Xenon
ATI Radeon HD 5770

The software itself runs stable and other programs such as After Effects or Photoshop as well. Playing back sequences in Premiere works fine (even HD).
But when I try to move a clip in the timeline it takes several seconds for the clip to react. One example would be that I chose a clip and I try to drag to a different video layer and it seems it's not moving. After a few seconds though the clip moves to the desired spot but sometime when I need to adjust the position it will again take a few seconds until it moves. I've tried several footage formats (H.264, ProRes, several Quicktime codecs, XDCam-Codecs).
It's incredibly painful especially when working with clients sitting next to you.
Does anybody have a clue what might be the issue?

If you are on 10.6.8 it is a problem. Upgrading your OS to 10.7 fixes this. This was a huge issue for me on 10.6.8 and larger monitors. There were many threads here and on the Adobe Premiere Pro forums about this prior to 10.7.

For some people, like you and Tom Daigon, it works ok. For many people they experience what Yannik is experiencing. Let's see what OS he is using.

It has to do with your monitor setup and other factors. Bigger monitor, more lag.

I am indeed running 10.6.8. I will try to fix the problem with an update.

Regarding the storage: if this is any hint at all related with this issue, FCP7 works perfectly fine. Of course this is Mac developed software.

I have 24" single displays through quadro 4000 on both my 10.6.8 systems if that
helps anyone reading this thread.
