If I drop a .mts file from my sony camera into Prem Pro, it shows video but no sound? If I drop it into CS5.5 the sound works.

I have downloaded an updated version of Prem Pro from Adobe today June 2012. And still it won't handle mts files?

I can't understand why it is so hard to find a solution to this problem. two of the worlds largest companies Sony and Adobe and none of them cover the issue on their sites, Yet it's clearly a major issue?

I have seen talk on the site of renaming files, which doesn't work and would be a pain in the rear.

Has Any one got a solution that works?

Thanks

Are you using the Media Browser to import your files?

Todd, I just came here looking for an answer to a question about .mts files not playing, saw your comment about the media browser and got them working. Thanks for the help!

P.S. I'm new to Premier Pro and just started watching a video2brain course on it yesterday.

See this page for information about the Media Browser.

One cause of not getting audio with some kinds of footage is that people are just importing the video essence files and not the entire file structure for the footage. The Media Browser gets rid of that problem by automatically importing the whole necessary set of files for such assets.

I am having the same problem here. We have lots of MTS files. We are on Windows 7 with Premiere Pro CS6. If you double-click the MTS in Windows Explorer, it plays sound. If you drag it to the Premiere project it does not. I read your post about media browser, so I tried that instead of dragging and unfortunately it still does not work.

If I convert them with HandBrake, they work, but there are lots of files and I would really prefer to use the originals directly. Since the play fine in Windows Explorer isn't there some way to make Premiere play them?

Thank you very much.

OK. I did the deactivate and reactivate thing suggested below and that seems to have worked. I have to reimport all footage fresh, but I guess that is not the end of the world. Hope this "holds"

Thanks.

I just found out that if you are running a trial version of Premiere CS6, it will not support MTS audio. The full version will support MTS audio not the trial the trial version.

Hope this helps you.

It appears that these various failures with AC3 audio and MPEG-based video formats are related to a common cause: These codecs are unlocked for use by the activation system, which can fail for a few different reasons. The best way to restore the use of these codecs---which works in many but not all cases---is to manually deactivate your CS6 software (Help > Deactivate), then quit and restart your CS6 software, and then restart and re-activate, then create a new project and a new sequence.

If this doesn't get your activation back into the right state, we can try some other things. The experts on the activation system hang out on this forum:

http://forums.adobe.com/community/download_install_setup

... so you may get better help regarding activation issues there.

Hi, I just got CS6 and I am also having issues with the (AVCHD) audio files, I am importing through the media browser and some clips play, some don't and some play half way only. I know it does not make sense, but any help will be appreciated.
I updated to 6.0.2 and still have the issue

I did the deactivate procedure suggested by Todd from Adobe above and it worked for me. Give it a try.

I had the same problem. I was not getting audio with my mts clips. I thought it was because I was on a trial version of the app. So I upgraded to creative cloud and tried again. No luck. It was the same thing. Then I opened another set of clips from a different card and I got audio. I went back to the first folder with the data from the first card and sill could not get audio. What a problem! I just could not figure it out...Then I went into the actual folders in the OSX finder. I found corresponding ".xmp" files for every clip that i have viewed in Premiere. I decided to trash all the xmp files- and behold- I got audio with the clips that initially did not have any! I'm not sure if this helps. let me know if it does.-Aloha!

Wow.
This is the best Adobe can do? Adobe realizes how popular AVCHD is, right?

Same problem with me. I shot 6 clips last saturday (SONY NEX VG20) and I wanted them in Premiere 6 CS. No audio track. I tried other clips from earlier and they were well imported as .MTS and the audio track was there.

Could it be the external mike, I used for the first time? Testclip with and without, both showed the audio track properly. With the 6 saturday tracks I could try what I wanted, no success.

Today, Monday morning I tried the entire thing on my office computer, which has very much more performance and speed. Believe it or not, the 6 clips showed the proper audio track.

I don't know for sure if that ist the reason, but for me it seems, that lack of computer resource and speed could be the issue. That is what was manifested on my environment.

I found that going into Media Cache Files and deleting ONLY the files associated by name with the clips that are in trouble solves this problem. I notice multiple attempts to create these files (likely corresponding with the repeated unsuccessful attempts to conform), often with a _1 extension on the problem files. Completely deleting these files on three clips (out of about 12, 9 of which were fine) that were troubled caused them to conform one last time, and conform properly.

Before taking this step I observed a clip audio track that suddenly cut out completely at about half; listening to it showed that it was troubled (in-and-out, sync and other problems) even before it cut out completely. The audio from my .m2ts files (created by a Sony HDR CS-550V), played in VLC Player perfectly.

The files, on a PC, are usually located at c:usersappdataroamingadobecommonMedia Cache Files. If you don't see an appdata folder under your user name, you need to open a Windows Explorer window, press to activate the menus, choose Tools Folder options, press the View tab and choose Show hidden files, folders and drives.

I don't use the program on a Mac but believe that the same files are stored there.
