John GrilliCS6 Upgrade question???
by on May 10, 2012 at 7:21:42 pm

I will be upgrading to CS6, should I remove CS5.5 from my system first? never? or after CS6 is installed? I just don't want both versions taking up space on my hard drive. Any suggestions would be helpful, Thanks, John

We often keep the last version for a while, in case we need to interchange versions with others that do not yet have the latest release. Also, there can be bugs in new software releases that will force you to do certain things in the older version. No problem having both installed, but when opening a file the operating system will choose the newest software version unless you choose through right clicking...

Here we make a backup disk image of our current system,
remove the old software, install the new and hope all goes well.

We're 5 for 5 from various Apple and Adobe upgrades over
the years with never needing to go back.

I just use different boot drives in my MacPro, each with a different version. About to dump 5.0.x for 6 on my SSD boot. Got Nikon playback! Thats the beauty of the MacPro. I could have 5 internal boot drives if I wanted! SSD boot in one DVD space. But three is plenty!
