 | Any rumors about 6.0?
by Ron Pestes on Feb 7, 2012 at 6:50:33 pm |
Has anyone heard any reliable information on what to expect in PP 6.0? Getting close to NAB and hoping for some word soon.

Speedgrade will probably be included immediately as a stand-alone application. Adobe also demoed something called Prelude which looks like it's the Lightroom of video (basic adjustments, metadata logging, etc... onLocation killer?)
Those are my only two solid guesses unless they include some of the really early tech demos like Rubba Dub (auto matching ADR audio).

Rather than wasting time on rumors, you could wait until NAB.
Just a thought.

Woah, Todd. Your users *like* the product. They like to talk about it. We like to talk about what the program we sit in front of for 8 hours a day might look like in 6 months. Sort of like I like to think about what "The Dark Knight Rises" will be like or my vacation this summer might have in store. This is valuable buzz for you guys. Don't be such a killjoy, man.
You just gave me a totally bad taste for the Adobe brand, dude. The big middle finger. Now I know how much you guys appreciate us.

"You just gave me a totally bad taste for the Adobe brand, dude. The big middle finger. Now I know how much you guys appreciate us."
Come on, can we give Todd a break here? I don't think "wait till NAB" is exactly over the line... but giving Adobe the middle finger because something 'could' be construed as slightly snarky... not exactly brimming with class IMO.
Personally, I love the fact that real Adobe employees take the time to answer questions on forums that doesn't belong to Adobe... not exactly industry practice, but very appreciated... or at least it should be.

Sorry. I didn't mean to come off that way. I just see a lot of people spinning into misinformation when talking about rumors.

**I heard** that PPro 6.0 is going to have auto-focus correction detection.... so when any out-of-focus or soft-focus shots are being ingested, the system recomputes the bokeh and collimates the vectors so that any uncorrected pixel shift is redirected into an aligned state, thus producing perfect focus and framing.
Or, as Todd suggests, wait for NAB. :D

I've heard that there are going to new features and bug fixes. Anything more you need to know?
Give Todd a break! He's not the CEO of Adobe, and part of his job is most likely working under a non-disclosure agreement. Take a look at the Final Cut Pro: The Debate forum to see what it would be like here if, due to lack of input from a certain software company, insult and innuendo started flying. I'd rather get a polite "can't talk about it right now" straight from the horse's mouth than months of guessing and finger pointing, with total silence from the software company.
That said, I'd love to know what's coming, but alienating the messenger sure ain't going to help get anything sooner - it just shows a coarsness and lack of class better left in the political arena.

I really hope the guys at Adobe work on improving the OMF and AAF export as it seems to be a work in progress with 5.5. I am having to stick with Avid MC for some projects to get a reliable audio export to Protools.
Todd I hope you guys are looking at for us all and thanks for listening on this forum. If you need more details let me know.
Cheers

Gee guys, all the man did was say wait until NAB. Hardly a middle finger!
I, for one, and many others, are very grateful for people like Todd's presence and worthwhile assistance on this forum as well as people like Dennis in the Final Cut X Debate forum.
A slightly different presence and approach than certain other companies who feel that complete and utter silence is the best approach to an industry relying on their soft and hardware.
If you're looking for middle fingers I can tell you where to go.

I have heard that Adobe will be implementing:
Audio tracks will work like a regular NLE, ability to export to OMF easily, better FX implementation for single and track audio.
Transitions galore! Single sided transitions will finally be addressed after over 15 years of user requests! Excellent work on this one Adobe, Thank You.
Macs will have all the features and benefits of PeeCees including Ati video card support(AMD now).
Adobe releases coding that is critical for plug in developers(finally) although at the risk of alienating some After Effects purchases(FX Plug-like).
Sync playhead through PSD files.
Markers retain playhead sych through layers.
They also address all the things I forgot that are important to me in this forward looking software. I know it's true, I know it's true....

(As an Adobe employee the views expressed here are my personal views and do not reflect that of Adobe Systems).
To anyone "watching" this thread,
As a long time Professional User of the Adobe Video Products I know first hand how eager everyone is to hear about what's coming for the next release. But these rumor mills are just trouble.
Working "behind the curtain" now as part of Adobe I can see that this software company shares more than any others in the Pro Video Space and that we genuinely care about providing the best products for users.
When posters start rattling off features they would like to see but not wording it as such or using words like "I heard" it's not cool on several levels.
If someone does have some "real" insights to what's coming and sharing it, they are by definition breaking the law as they will be under strict NDA.
Despite the excitement I ask people to do your best to let go of the rumor mills and "I heard" posts. They aren't going to change your life.
It's like becoming a parent. Whether or not the "baby" is a boy or girl doesn't really matter, so long as its healthy - right? Don't try to buy baby clothes early. Be patient, wait, get excited and remain open.
Cheers JB

This is some inside information I just got.
Truth be told, it will be neither "boy" nor "girl" but a true hermaphrodite! Imagine that, everything you always wanted in one. It's a Christmas miracle!
