I have been playing with the razor tool but can't get it to snap to the play head even with snapping turned on. This makes it almost impossible to razor a clip at an exact point as determined by the play head. I have the snap icon active. What am I missing?

It won't snap, but if you click anywhere near the playhead, it will splice in the right place. Give it a go.

I prefer to make add edits with keyboard shortcuts, though: target the track, then press CMD+K (Ctrl-K Windows).

Put playhead where you want to cut, select the track the clip is in and hit Ctrl+K (add edit).
Ctrl+Shift+K to add edit to all tracks.

Hi Ron,

If you want the razor to have a bit more of a "stickiness" to the playhead position a trick I use is to zoom the timeline out a bit.

But yeah, there is no way to see that the tool is in sticky/snap mode like with FCP.

Good Luck and welcome to the Premiere Pro Family.

I'm an FCP 7 convert moving to Premiere Pro because its more like what we've been using EXCEPT the razor tool. What good is the razor tool if we cannot snap to the CTI? I don't understand who would want to use the razor tool without snapping to it. Who cuts at random? Just my two cents...

Couldn't agree more with Wayne on this. You can fly through footage in FCP and grab pieces you want with the razor tool. It's not for every project, but when I need to fly through lot's of footage and pull a couple things it's great.

The razor tool in Premiere is useless if it can't snap.

How do we get Adobe to change this?

When I park at a point in my time like, is there a way to make a cut or splice without using the razor tool? I'm trying to cut down on key strokes.

In Avid I just park at a point in the middle of a segment, hit one key and the segment is cut in half. Then I can lift that half out of my time line.

Thanks much
