 | Windows 7 - Capturing via FireWire doesn't work
by Sebastian Martinez on Jan 13, 2010 at 10:23:23 am |
Hi!
Capturing via Firewire on Windows 7 doesn't work at all.
Could it be the Firewire card? The Card is obviously working but Premier Pro doesn't see my camera. It wants to capture via 'COM 1' (what ever that means!).
Do you know a propper Firewire card for DV/HDV or any other method?
My settings:
Windows 7
Abobe Premiere Pro 2.0
Firewire IEEE 1394a 3Port PCI FW
Processor: INTEL Pentium E6300, 2x2.8 GHz Dual Core Prozessor
RAM: Kingston 4096 MB DDR2 800MHz
Drive: 500GB HDD S-ATA II 7200rpm
Grafic: NVIDIA 1024 MB Geforce 9500 GT inkl. DVI und VGA Anschluss
Mainboard: ASUS P5KPL-AM SE Mikro-ATX
Sound: 5.1 Onboard Soundkarte
Camera: Panasonic NV-DS29EG
Respects

Windows 7 does support firewire - at least in 64 bit PAL format - because I use it all the time to control Sony VTRs - DVCam and HDV.
Sometimes Premiere CS4 (not PPRO2) has a sulk and I need to reboot to get it to recognise the machine. But windows always recognizes the firewire cable being plugged and unplugged and generates an options menu.
Try uninstalling your firewire drivers and reinstalling.

Hi,
sorry I wasn't responding immediatly - just started my day at work overseas.
OS: Windows 7 Pro 64 bit
Camera: Panasonic NV-DS29EG (miniDV so DV)
So might it the camera that doesn't fit the available Protocols?

I also have to mention that capturing DV from that very same camera (Panasonic NV-DS29EG)wasn't a problem at all with my laptop (a Targa with Windows XP and Premiere 6.5). So the Camera still works very well in this setup.
Thanks so far
Sebastian

Probably what the problem is win7 loaded the wrong firewire driver, a DV camera if it installs right will show up in the "Device Manager" under the heading of "Imaging devices", a HDV camcorder will show up under the heading of "Sound, video and game controllers", the best thing to do is look at the chipset on the firewire card, and then check the "Controller" listing under the "IEEE1394 Bus Host Controllers" Heading and see if it matches the firewire chip on the board, if not just select the update driver selection under the Driver tab, select browse, and select pick from a list, you can select Legacy driver or uncheck the Show compatible Hardware box and see if its in the list.

You may need to change premier pro to run in windows xp compatibility mode by right clicking on the icon and clicking on "properties" then clicking on the "compatibility tab" then clicking "win xp compatibility mode". I am running a new windows 7 64 bit computer and premier pro 1.5 and did this to make the program function properly.

Yes, these setting are disregarded sometimes. But I checked it all and it was all ok ...
It is just an oldy dv cam.
I didn't had the leisure yet to fix it though, but I'll post when it's done.
Thank you for all your knowledge!
