Premiere Pro using too much on hard drive
by Brandon Strohbehn on Nov 18, 2009 at 1:26:18 am

Hi there. I just started using premiere pro for a new project, and my computer has slowed down tremendously! it is saying that there is 300gb of space used on my cache file. I have 1TB hd, but was hoping I can use my external as a cache. the last time I tried to use it as a cache, it said "media files offline". and why is it taking up almost 300Gb?! dont know what to do , please help.

You ought give your computer specs, and your project settings and workflow

copy, let start with that.
Hp tower stripped of all the Hp junk
8 gig memory (64 bit operating system)
1 TB hard drive
AMD Phenom 9750 Quad core processor 2.40 Ghz
NVIDIA GeForce 9100 graphics card

This is what I am currently working with.
the video I am currently editing is approximately 22 minutes long, working with both 480 and HD video.
Should the Cache really be 300 Gb?! am I doing something wrong?

The length of the edited program makes no difference...how much footage is loaded into the machine and what formats are they? Certain filetypes need to be handled differently...also if the audio settings are different for your timeline than they were in your footage, every clip will have to have a duplicate audio track cached that is correct for the settings in the sequence(s).
