how best to rip a few minutes worth of a DVD

I have a DVD of an old James Bond film and I would like to rip a few minutes of it and insert the footage as comic relief to a vacation video I am making.
What's the best tool to use? I can go either Windows or Mac.
Premiere CS3 on Windows is my primary editing platform and is host to this vacation project.

Unfortunately, even if this is for your personal use, showing you how to rip a commercial would be illegal, and would probably also avoid a nasty post from Ron...

I don't think ripping a DVD is illegal if you are using it for the purpose Mike is intending. I have used a program called AOA DVD ripper in the past to extract individual scenes from a movie with good success, and I'm sure a google search will provide links to more modern software apps. The only issue you may run into is if the DVD has copyright protection and can't be ripped.

Actually, it is illegal to make a personal copy by breaking a copyright scheme.
From the DMCA:
"In the case where media are protected using some effective copy protection scheme, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act makes it illegal to circumvent that copy protection scheme. This law makes it illegal to rip most commercial DVDs as they are typically protected by CSS encryption."
