Imported video develops surface edge blurring when panning

Hi there,
I'm using Premiere Pro CS3 for the first time, and have imported some footage I captured with Win Movie Maker from a Sony Standard DV camcorder.
I've noticed that the edges of objects develop horizontal artifacts, especially when panning.
Here is a screen shot.
When viewing the footage in Win Movie Maker, this problem does not appear, however in other Adobe apps, such as the preview window for Bridge, it does.
I have adjusted the field dominance settings without success, and have not been able to find a similar problem posted anywhere.

Movie Maker captures as DirectShow type 1. Premiere in the past would not ingest type 1 and I suspect type 1 is still incompatible with PP. Recapture footage in Premiere to get type 2 or edit in MM.

Hi,
I am getting the same thing
I am using a PD170 it happens only when the shot pans/ moves
I believe that the problem lies with the firewire connection,
I have tried two different machines with PP and both have the same problem
Any Ideas?

Previewing interlaced footage on a computer monitor is fraught with problems, especially during high motion. If your target is DVD, then preview on a TV.
Firewire is simply data transfer and I doubt your issue involves that.

I have burned the section of footage I took the screen shot from using Encore, and the problem remains. I will re-capture the DV this weekend and will advise the outcome. My feeling is that as Mike mentioned, unless you use PP to capture, the problem will remain. Dan, what app did you use to capture the video?

I contected the 170 to my TV and it worked fine;
I recaptured the footage using PP CS4 and it worked fine;
This is quite annoying as I want to know how to fix it; if the issue arises again....
Although I have started to notice other footage has a simliar problem, but not to the degree which you are faced with

I have found a way to improve the quality when burning to DVD. Select the sequence, choose export to Encore, then open the settings window.
You'll find an 'Output' tab in the top left corner of the export settings window. Tick de-interlace.
This fixed the problem for me. I hope it works for you too.

Yeah, It is the import settings. When you import tape (for example) You need to select interlaced option. or you will see the jagged lines.
It only happens on PCs! Werid...
