Corner Pin Filter to correct Barrel Distortion?
by Jonas Bendsen on Sep 15, 2009 at 4:12:28 am

Can I get away with using the "Distort>Corner Pin" effect in Premiere Pro to correct barrel distortion?

We shot a scene of a car in an alley (car parallel to wall) in RED 4k from about 150 feet away using a 12mm lens. There is of course some image bending at the edges, so I'm wondering if I can get away with correcting that using the aforementioned filter.

It looks fine to me in 2k on my Dell 3008, but I'm wondering what it will look like on a giant screen. When we do film out, is this something that the film house can take care of (if we request it)?

Try the Basic 3D effect and the Tilt option.

When I use the tilt feature of basic 3D, the bottom part of the image becomes "pinched" in and you can see the edge of the frame (and the angle it creates on both sides).

I would need to blow up the image to compensate. Perhaps this is what I'm doing with the corner pin anyway (enlarging the image to compensate for the narrower bottom of the distorted image)?
