HVR-V1 24p questions

I'm using CS4 with a Sony HVR-V1U with the HVR-DR60 and have a BUNCH of questions. I've googled all over the place and can't find any real solid answers.
1.) What settings should I use for my sequences? As far as I can tell, I should use 1080/24p if I'm going to export to DVD or files and 1080/60i if I'm going back to tape or broadcast.
2.) I've noticed 24p footage has repeat frames in 1080/60i sequences, and none in 24p timelines. How is the pulldown removed? Does CS4 detect the repeat frame cadence automatically, or does it simply know them by their timecode number? Am I losing quality when it does this? Is this why it needs to render in 24p timelins, as opposed by the 60i timeline (which doesn't need to)? Does rendering this lose quality, because I know how an mpeg frame uses data from the previous and next frame, so if some frames are removed the preceding and following frames have less data to draw from, and also that, as a rule, rendering loses quality.
3.) The V1U has 24p and 24a modes. I know the slight visual and flagging differences, but am wondering which I should be using for CS4 native editing. It doesn't seem to really matter, but it would be great to know I'm using the most lossless workflow, just for kicks. I guess I don't understand how CS4 knows which frames are the repeats in 24p mode (because the phase of the cadence changes with every camera on/off - or does it?) and I don't know if it even recognizes the extra data from 24a.
4.) Are any of the answers to the above different depending on if I'm using the DR60 versus a DV tape?
I guess I'm striving for an ideal workflow where I'm editing full frames in a 24p timeline, without any quality loss from the pulldown procedure. Thanks, sorry it's so wordy.

You have to use the settings that match your footage.
If it was 24p, then use 24p. Your export also has to match those settings. Otherwise you will get some bad artifacts.
Yes Broadcast is 60i, but so is DVD.
Although you can also make a 24p DVD, you can't export to 24p if your project is 60i.

So it is 24pA? If so, you can right click the footage, interpret and select remove 24p pulldown.

In 24p, you would work in a 60i timeline, that's only a look, not how it's recorded.

24a is different from 24pa. 24a is Sony's special mode where every time you turn on the camera it makes sure the first frame of a shot is an A frame. 24pa is panasonic's thing.

24p or 24a? Also, I know the pulldown removal checkbox (under interpret something or other) but it's grayed out, it either removes the repeats in 24p timelines, or doesn't in 60i. I don't really have a choice. Also, will 24p projects exported to DVD play in a DVD player?
