Four-Point Garbage Matt Key
by Rick Medlock on Sep 5, 2009 at 6:55:33 am

Hi Guys

Using the four point or any of the garbage keys in Premiere Pro CS4, when moving the handles the handles move but the area is not selected leaving the area intact. Am i missing something? as I am unable to figure out if I am missing a setting to enable me to remove the area. I have a work around but this is frustrating. System Mac OSX version 10.5.8.

Thanks for your help in this matter

Rick

I end up just scrubbing the values in the effects window to avoid the obvious bug.

Hi Chris

Thanks for your reply.

Sorry, I don't understand what you mean. I am new to this software and I am still learning the ropes. Could you please clarify what you mean by scrubbing the values in the effects window.

Thanks for your help in this matter.

In the effects control window, where it lists all the effects you have applied to your clip, you expand the garbage matte effect and it will display values defining the positions of all the points making up that matte. You can click and drag on one of those values and it moves the corrosponding point in real time in the program window. (That is called scrubbing - clicking and dragging through values) If you hold the shift key while scrubbing the values move in greater increments. If you scrub while holding the ctrl key, the values move in tiny little increments.

I have not found any easier way to do this. What is your work around?

Hi Chris

Thanks for you reply

I understand how to move and select an area as you have described, the problem is that it does not remove the un-selected area. In other words I still have the whole image with the matt in place and no transparent part. I am working my way through Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 Classroom in a book and it is one of the exercises in there.

My work around is to put the image in PS and place a mask and remove the part of the image not required.

If I understand this with a garbage matt in place I should be able to mask or remove the parts on the image I do not require. That at present is not happening.

Once again thanks for your input.

So your saying a clip on video track 2 with a garbage matte on it doesn't see through to a clip placed underneath in track 1?

[I am using CS3. The bug I was refering to is the inability to move the handles of the garbage matte in the program view correctly.]

Correct. A clip on video track 2 with a garbage matte on it doesn't see through to a clip placed underneath in track 1. Any ideas of how I resolve this or do I need to contact Adobe to resolve find a fix.
