Custom Transitions
by Marc Nibor on Sep 4, 2009 at 4:57:06 pm

is there a way to create and save custom transitions?

if not... i am sure it is possible to import premade transitions.

i am looking for a transition, similar to the "boxes stroked" in the after effects dissolves presets.
basically big blocks fading in randomly over time... overlapping each other... and maybe with an additional horizontal or vertical movement.

does anyone know where to find transitions similar to the one i described?
during my previous search i only found edirol, hollywood fx and Boris transitions. but thats NOT what i am looking for... this is too cheesy and too much fancy 3d. there MUST be something else... simple but stylish.

any ideas?

I have created a few custom wipes for PPro. Funny, in CS3 there is no diagonal soft wipe or soft iris wipe. I used photoshop to make grey-scale maps that the gradient-wipe transition could use. I suppose you could make a bunch of weird fx maps using the same principle. Isn't there an image map transition, or something like that, buried deep in the fx bin somewhere? I know i've seen it, but I never knew how to use it. I bet that this technique is what it is for. I'll give it a try and post back later.

ok, i'll check in later....

anyhow i think this way it's not posible to do the kind of transitions i am looking for....
i'll describe it again. (a somehow close example is in the presets of AFX cs4 as mentioned in the previous post)
example: clip b blends in with 5 to 7 blocks over time ( each covering about 15% of the screen) these blocks are moving vertically and horizontally... and overlapping over time.
thats just a rough description... doesnt have to be exactly this way.

i was sure there would be some user created transitions to download somewhere... but maybe this is only the case for after effects.

Yes you are correct. This will not make the complicated effect you are looking for. I can see making just the boxes part, but not the boxes moving around part.

As stinky as it sounds, I think Boris is the only way to go. Maybe they have a more subtle section of transitions in their bundles somewhere? But no one seems to make these things anymore.

There is a company called Adorage that sells these things, but they are dripping with cheese! :)

hahaha... dripping with cheese : ) that's exactly what i'm trying to avoid : ) it's funny, but ALL products that offer transitions feature these horrible styles that not even my grandma would use.

anyhow.... thanks a lot for the answer

Some editiors I know use stuff from the Editors Toolkit by Digital Juice. Perhaps they have some discreet transition packages?
