AVCHD and AVI Multicam
by Jeremy Phillips on Aug 13, 2009 at 10:38:42 pm

Hi,

I regularly film events for schools and local groups, including drama productions and concerts etc... I normally use 4 cameras, 3 of which are Sony MiniDV camcorders and the other is a Sony HDR-SR12 AVCHD HDD Camcorder.

I use Premiere Pro CS3 to edit these together. I have only just recently started using the Sony HD camera and I still haven't found the best way to edit this with my other DV cameras. They work very well capturing, adding to timeline then using premiere's multicam tool to edit together. I have tried with the sony utility that comes with the camera, converting to an mpeg2 file and using that in premiere which works but i know it is not the best way.

Does anyone have any similar experiences or know of the best way I can edit all of these together.

Any help would be most appreciated

Thanks
Jeremy

Convert the AVCHD file into a DV file so all your clips are natively DV. This will keep the system less stressed during the multi-cam edit process.

Hi,

Yes I thought about that and that would seem the best way for the pc. How would you recommend I do this? I have access to Sony Vegas 9 which I know handles native AVCHD but what settings would be best to export this to AVI.

Thanks
Jeremy
