Export time, CS3

I have just looked through 1000 messages using "Export" for the search and not found an answer. I apologise if this has been asked before.
I am new to CS3. A video [straight forward, no effects, just a bit of cropping] 1.27 hours takes over three hours to export as an .avi. The same video using Premiere 6 takes 43 minutes. Am I doing something wrong?
Using XP Home/sp2, I GB RAM, exporting to a seperate HDD with 300+ free space.
Thank you for your time.
George.
p.s. I have posted this on other Forums but never got a reply.

With the difference in figures between Premiere 6 and CS3 [almost TWO hours difference] I cannot believe that it is either a processor or RAM problem.
I am more inclined to think that it is a settings problem but do not know where to look for or what to look for as a solution.

simply opening Premiere usually takes a couple of gigabites on a core 2quad and 3.5 gigs on the core i7. The difference in the processing requirements between premiere 6 and cs3 would like comparing windows 95 and Vista, it's night and day, so 2 hours more wouldn't surprise me.
