Premiere CS3: Exporting 16:9 SDV to Quicktime
by Keith Emroll on May 27, 2009 at 1:02:39 pm

Hello!

I'm working with Adobe Premiere CS3. I have edited together some footage that is in 16:9 Standard Definition. When I export the finished movie, I can only get it to maintain the 16:9 aspect ratio when I export as a .AVI file. If I change the video settings to Quicktime, the rendered video converts to either 4:3 or 1.50:1 and looks stretched vertically.

What settings do I need to change in order to export the 16:9 into Quicktime so that the resulting .MOV file plays in 16:9?

Any help on this would be appreciated!

Best regards,
Keith Emroll

If I recall correctly, the Quicktime encoder that PPro uses cannot produce anamorphic files. You will need to export to an intermediate format and use QuickTime Pro to get an anamorphic file.

Alternatively, export using square pixels and a correspondingly wider frame.

Cheers
Eddie

Thanks for the help. Turns out, my client was satisfied with an AVI file and he has the ability to convert it to MOV while maintaining the widescreen.

But this will be good information to know for the future!

Much appreciated!

Keith

1) Buy QT Pro online($30.)
2) Load QT clip into QT Player. Go to "window->movie properties->presentation". Check "conform apeture to (clean apeture)" box.
3) Save (to retain settings).
