How to efficiently move between platforms.
by James Huenergardt (Reel Inspirations) on May 20, 2008 at 2:15:23 pm

Hi,

Is there any easy way to move Premiere Pro CS3 projects between Mac and PC without losing references to all your clips?

Since Mac doesn't use drive letters and PC does, whenever I move a project over all I have to go find all the clips again.

Any help would be appreciated.

If you put all your clips in the same folder on that hard drive, don't you only need to find just one clip and then the rest will be found in the same folder?

If I am moving between platforms I always make sure I have the drive named as something. Not just a letter, but a name. This name is what is shared. The single folder for all stuff is the best way to keep all your materials. I categorize my resources into folders like,
Resources>Images
>Video
>Audio
this way all I need to reconnect is one file from each category while maintaining a managed "file type" folder structure in the Resources folder.
Keeping everything in the one folder will not only look messy it is. While on the upside you only ever need to find one file and rest will be in the same folder so no more relinking after the first one.

I think that was my biggest problem. I was importing EX1 files right of my SXS card which has MANY folders which made it a pain to swap platforms.

Thanks!
