pixelated cross dissolve
by Andie Moonie on May 6, 2008 at 8:12:16 pm

Anyone have any ideas why some of my cross dissolves look a bit grainy or pixelated, even when exported to DVD.

Switched to Pr Pro from Avid liquid as it did not support direct x 10 graphics cards, but with much less effects to work with and them looking a bit grainy, think I may have been a bit hasty. Really new to the adobe software so maybe I am missing something in my setup. I hope so!

Project is DV Pal 16:9

Which dissolve? Use the Cross Dissolve for the smoothest fades.

If this does not give you good results (which it always has with my projects) then you could just overlap the two clips on two different layers, and then set 2 opacity keyframes on the top clip and make it go from 0% to 100%. That will do the same thing as a fade.

Check also the quality setting on your program monitor window on your machine, (right click on the program monitor) make sure it is set to high quality, and then make sure to render your footage.

Eternity...don't miss it for the world.

Hi Randy

Thanks for your response, but it is the cross dissolve I was using. Have rendered and then burned to DVD but some of the transitions just didn't look quite as smooth as they had on previous projects done on liquid. Wondered if there was some other setting that I should check as I am a bit of a novice at this editing lark. Have to admit that field orders and alpha channels are phrases I keep reading but not really understanding, so wondered if one of these or one of the many other settings that I have no idea what they are for is the culprit. Was hoping somebody may have remembered seeing this before and knew what they did to fix it.

It's possible that Liquids cross dissolve works more like Premiere's Additive Dissolve. Try that one out and let us know how it faired.

How many editors does it take to change a light bulb?
