From a new creative cow article, http://magazine.creativecow.net/article/the-joy-of-filmmaking, the vfx supervisor, under the "better informed color" section claimed everything was shot on HDCAM SR tape and processed. But the movie hugo was shot using the Arri Alexa? What did he mean by the HD tape?

That would be HDCam SR tape,

At the time that Hugo was shot the camera was so new that the ProRes workflow was untested - so the production recorded the camera output in LogC to HDCamSR

It gets ironic that the most practical way to capure from the new video camera is to go back to magnetic tape. It catches Bob Zelin out of style!

Hugo was being shot simultaneously with the intial release of Arri's Alexa in starting in May and June 2010- at that time there was no internal recording in the camera at all, and SR tape is a proven workflow.

Even today there are productions that still require SR tape workflow.
