Let's hope Creative Cow makes its own ipad app. If not, let's hope the site gets to be a bit more ipad friendly soon. The mobile version looks all wrong on the ipad.

Yep, i don't even use it, that's why I'm not posting on the Cow all that much at the moment. I use the iPad in the mornings and evenings when I'm home and that mobile site is fine for the phone, but annoying on the iPad.

When I saw the Craigslist iPad App, it had me salivating over what what a Creative Cow app could be. Considering that the iPad plays any type of web page embedded quicktime (not just ones formatted for iphone or in the youtube player), it really opens the door for a more interesting experience for sharing our works with each other. I hope Ron and the gang get sucked in to the iPad experience :-).

Ahhh. Somewhat better. An app would make a world of difference, still.

Yes, it would -- and it will.
Indeed.

We are definitely at work on it. We have wanted to do it for some time now, but as with everything, when you are as small a team as we are and work without the deep pockets of the major corporations, we don't always get what we want as fast as we'd like it.

We are aware of that but we'd been stretched so far and wide lately that it was not a front burner item. That is going to change quickly though, I assure you.
Best regards,

Ron,
I hired a kid last week to start coding on our first iphone/ipad suite of applications. I'll let you know how it goes - but a quick note is - it's not as difficult as you'd expect. The trick is getting the right programmer. I'll make a nice long post about it once we're approved through the app store process. I'll also give a free code for Cow Users the first weekend it's online.
Cheers,
John

Of course the difficulty of writing an app depends on the complexity of the app. Ragardless, there is nothing easy in writing any Objective-C or C++ programs. Both languages are C derived, which means that memory management is tricky and needs to be handled by a pro or you end up with memory leaks. UI design is also a biggie, a field where 80% of development time will go. UI is the big black hole of software development, even with the UI builder included in the iPhone SDK.
Regardless, any C-derived language requires skills and a lot of experience, it's the nature of the beast and probably one of the reasons why Apple made it a requirement. It automatically filters out people with less experience in software development.

I guess it's lucky that I got a great programmer with a stable of approved iphone apps. He had a beta in less than a week. One thing I have noticed is that transitioning from television to app production isn't the dramatic shock I expected. It's a bit slower going than producing an ad, but many of the design philosophies are the same.
It's been a long time since I really felt excited about a project on this level - even though I completely expect to make no money on it whatsoever :).
