Eric ChardCamera movement

I'm used to using Lightwave, and the camera movement in LW seems much more intuitive than camera control in Blender: essentially, it's a lot like moving a Blender viewport.

Is there a way to "drive" the Blender camera around like the viewport navigation works? Preferably from the camera viewport.

Yes, you can press Shift-F whil ein the camera viewport. Move the mouse to tilt, middle click+drag to pan and wheel to truck in/out. Be gentle, the controls are very sensitive. LMB click when you reach the desired position.

Thanks, Paolo. IMO that should be the default behaviour, WITHOUT having to hold down keys.

::tries it out:: Oh, that's odd: it's kinda like having a motorized fluid head. ::sigh:: Something like how the viewports work would have been great, but it's really hard to complain about a free program. >;^) (though I will)

Okay, and if you want to bank the camera in that mode? Or translate it?

For banking the easier system, IMHO, is to enable the rotate control and use it in a 3d view. For translation, vertical or horizontal, hold the middle mouse button and drag.
