Rename duplicates in Outline? Where?

If you DUPLICATE an object, it gets a copy #. Nice, but you often will want something more descriptive.

Where in blender can you rename duplicates? It doesn't seem possible in the Outliner window (where it would be very convenient).

Two places where you can do that. My favorite is to press "n" in the 3D view. That will bring the properties popup and you can change the name from there. The other place is in the Object button window, the one shown when you press the button with the 3 axis, in the header of the Buttons window.

If you want to change the name in the outliner - just control-click the name.

Thanks fellas, just what I needed.

If I were a contributer to the design effort, I'd suggest that since double-clicking doesn't seem to be used currently (2.49b), that should also be an option in the Outliner.
