I was trouble shooting an AE crash on Blender project import for about an hour and came to a very strange bug.

I'm posting to bring attention to it as well to see if anyone here can verify the bug.

Open a new Blender project, set the duration of the project to 6000 frames. Export out of Blender, Import into AE and AE should crash.

It does on my system anyway. I took a long walk to finally come to this conclusion.

Is there something about the AE export script that can't exceed a certain duration?

For anyone else experiencing this problem the work around is to export your project in chunks, cutting down to 3000 frames worked for me, and reassembling the project back in AE.

It's been a while since I last time visited creativecow, so I didn't have a chance to notice your posts about my exporter from Blender to After Effects.
I must admit that I never had a need to export animations longer than about 30-60 seconds, so didn't encounter issues you describe.
Unfortunately I don't know how to fix this. It's simply the way After Effects scripts work. Recreating animation via script takes a lot of data, so 3000 or 6000 frames long animation may be simply too much. It all has to be put into RAM and if there's too much - it'll crash AE.
I don't think I'll be able to do anything about it. The only solution I see at the moment is to do as you do - split animation into chunks.

If you have any questions or suggestions, please contact me. (You can use contact form on my site)

Thanks Bartek,

I love the exporter and use it all the time. I'm using it for work today actually :) Thanks for all your hard work!

Ya, splitting export into chunks worked great. Thanks again!
