This may be addressed in the XDCAM forum, but I'm curious if someone may have come across a similar situation when delivering CC'd HD files.

I'm delivering a CC'd .MXF for broadcast, using FCP7 with the XDCAM plugin to create the .MXF file. All of my test files have been approved and everything works fine. However, when ouputting the file it requires that I turn the stereo files into dual mono files. When I listen back to the file with something like Quicktime it sounds like both tracks are center panned, but when I listen back on something more XDCAM compatible like Adobe Premiere, it sounds like a more true stereo mix. So my understanding is that it really comes down to how the dual mono tracks are panned. My question is whether it is my responsibility to manually pan them or will the recipient/preference have control over that?

Update to my own post: I tried importing the .mxf file back into FCP7 using the XDCAM Transfer, and when I play it back in there, it is playing back in stereo. Perhaps the non-stereo playback just a result of using something like Quicktime to play it back?

just curious but....
- where did you get the XDCAM plug in? Did it come with FCP7?
- is the file you created for a telestream server?
- how did you insert the CC file into FCP?

Thanks
Phil

I got the XDCAM plugin through Sony. http://pro.sony.com/bbsc/ssr/micro-xdcam/resource.downloads.bbsccms-assets-...

In order to insert the caption data into the file, you'll have to use CPC software, there's really no other way to do it. If you have somebody who is doing the captioning for you w/ CPC web, you could supply them with the finalized file and have them do the insertion. It would probably require a lot of bandwidth to do that, but unless you have the $$ to spend on CPC software, it may be worth it. For what it's worth, the CPC tech support is superb and they helped me get up and running with their software in no time.
