well, i hope blackmagic simply can't "afford" to not support it. on the other hand: the market for their panel would get smaller...

So, if anyone would trade their Resolve panel for that one - sure, let me have the Resolve panel any day.

With Adobe's purchase of Iridas it could get interesting!
Adobe is setting themselves up as the new heir apparent now that apple did the fcpx gambit.
BMD will have to start to innovate and keep up at this point.

I´m looking at the knobs panel... imagine having the first row set for master black levels, gamma, highlights. The next row is R+G+B blacks, next R+B+B gamma and the top row is R+G+B highlights...
OMFG that would be a sweet panel to use, I would buy four of them in an instant if they were supported by Resolve...

The one thing I miss from all the third party panels is the bi-directional communication.
When clicking on the UI, the panels switch to the right controls.

What I would really like to know is if there are any plans for Resolve supporting these panels?
My guess is sadly... no. Who would buy the ultra-expensive Resolve-panel if Resolve would support the Element panel? The price difference is huge.
But with Adobe purchasing Iridas, things might get plenty interesting. Resolve might just have to support this panel in order to keep their clients. If Adobe comes up with a good alternative for color correction and adds full support for the Element panel...

the thing is that they already support the wave panel with very good menu coverage, so why not the new panels as the wave is phased out by tangent, if they configure the element to offer the same selection as the wave I'll be happy.
people that want the Resolve panels will buy the Resolve panels, much better button/knob integration with the software, big facilities will buy the resolve panels, people that make good money grading with Resolve will buy the Resolve panels.
the rest will get euphonix,element,wave,eclipse.
my wave /logitech G13 combo is very good, I see the element being a replacement for the wave, not the Resolve panel

Just to make it clear - Wave is NOT being phased out. Neither is the CP200.
Element is a new product that will be sold along side our other products.

Chris

Hi,
What we're showing at IBC are pre-production prototypes so we're pretty much near shipping. We're just shaking out the last few issues before we press the "Go" button.
You can expect Element to start shipping before the end of this year.
Cheers,
Chris

Hi Paul,
It looks unlikely that we'll start shipping Element before the end of the year. We've been holding off making any official announcements until we have an actual date, which at the moment looks like sometime towards the end of January.
As explained at IBC, the panels shown there were pre-production prototypes. As such there were a few things we wanted to improve:
1) Smoother feel to the knobs. They work just fine, but felt a little "gritty" sometimes as you turned them. The design shown at IBC has been improved in this respect and we've also changed it to make production easier.
2) Improved trackerball response. We've adjusted the laser pick-ups so as to improve how they track the balls.
3) The paint finish has been given a "softer" feel.
The panels remain the same size, shape and layout as shown at IBC.
The changes I've detailed above have just taken longer than we expected which has delayed production. We could have gone ahead and released what we showed at IBC, but we felt the additional improvements were worth the effort and wait.
In the meantime, it's given us a chance to collect further testing data from the people lucky enough to get their hands on a set for beta testing. So far so good :) The only complaint so far has been people having to wait a little longer to buy a set :)
Once we know firm shipping dates we will be posting on our website.
In the meantime if anyone has any questions please feel free to contact us - we're always happy to hear from people.
Cheers,
Chris

Anything new to report in terms of support? DaVinci Resolve, for instance?

I would too like to know if Resolve will be supporting Element.
The wave panels are for sale with discount because Element is coming,
should I buy the (even) cheaper Wave panel or wait for Element?

Hi,
We're still hoping to start shipping Element in January. There's no reason for the delays now other than getting parts out of our suppliers! We are beating them up daily to get everything in place. Having said that, we're only waiting on a few of the plastic parts. Things like metalwork, electronic circuit boards, displays, packaging are starting to come through or are already at our factory.
In terms of support for Element in Resolve, we are still talking to Black Magic Design about this. I know they have been incredibly busy providing feature updates to Resolve - you only have to look at the incredible number of features / updates they've added in the last few months to know how hard they have been at work. Add to that the fact that they've now added a Windows version! Yes, having a physical user interface is important to the grading process (and let's not forget they support a few already), but features / updates on the software are perhaps more important. With out the software there is no reason for panels :)
Cheers,
Chris

Hiya,
Sorry for not replying sooner - I just wanted to make sure we had everything in place ;)
Ok, it's official - the Element panels start shipping next week :)
The first ones are coming out of production as I type this. I've spent the last couple of days checking and setting up production (that's why I held off replying to this post).
There will be a more official announcement made on our website (hopefully today), so keep checking back there for more details about what supports them and where to buy them.
Thanks for being patient with us, I'm sure it will have been worth the wait ;)
Cheers,
Chris
