I have my cubix desktop 4 expander coming next week. I have to figure out how to use the slots.

I really want to get my 10g ethernet adapter into a slot faster than 4x.

These are the cards I will have.
2 -FX4800 cards
gt120
decklink 3d
Small tree 10gig card
raid HBA

I'm thinking the mac will have
slot 1 - expansion
slot 2 - gt120
slot 3 - Decklink
slot 4 - Raid HBA

Then in the cubix
slot 1 - FX4800
Slot 2 - FX4800
slot 3 - small tree 10g
slot 4 - open for now.

Anyone know if this sounds right?

Hey Nick,

Did you get this set up? I don't remember reading about GPU-Xpander 4 when 7.1 first was released, so I guess it is too recent for Blackmagic to have officially certified it yet? Cubix seems very certain it works with Resolve but I'd be curious to hear your experience.

I'm also looking to put two double-width GPUs in the Cubix, which is why the 4 seems like a nice option compared to the 2. Are there advantages other than the extra width that you've found?

I think it needs to be:
Mac Pro
1- GT120
2 -Cubix expansion
3-Decklink
4-HBA

Cubix
1-FX4800
2-FX4800
3-small tree 10g
4-open

the configuration guide never lists the GT120 in conjunction with a Cubix, but since it's supported, i can't imagine it being a problem.

One other thought.. are the FX4800's single wide or double wide? you may not be able to fit that small tree card in there as well..

When using the GT120, swap

1- GT120
2 -Cubix expansion

so it should be like this:

1 - Cubix expansion
2 - GT120

Also, you need to the FX4800 in Slot1 and Slot 4 I think. Slot 4 will block Slot 3, but you can still use Slot 2 for the 10G card.

Thanks Rohit,

That makes sense, so slot 3 of the expander should not used. I thought about stuffing a red rocket in there.

Yeah - I have a Cubix where I am running two GTX285 and a Red Rocket. It's not quite spec but it works fine.

Hi Rohit and Nick,
Been following your posts re. Cubix expander.
I am about to buy a new resolve setup.

I have the chance to buy two GTX285's that were PC versions that have been flashed. Do any of you know if these cards end up being EXACTLY the same as an OEMGTX285 for MAC?

Rohit, I would probably get the OEM ATI5870 for GUI and possibly 2 x GTX285's inside Cubix. Do you see any issues with that setup?

Lastly, I have a spare 2007 XServe RAID (14 x 500GB).. Do you see that having enough throughput for doing 10bit HD uncompressed?

Regards,
Steve
