 | Creating Database Issue
by Paul Jay on Sep 27, 2010 at 3:00:52 pm |
We have DaVinci installed on a MacPro with GTX285 but it can't create a database.
When installed on a MacBook Pro, it had no problems creating a database and it's up and running.
The MacPro is connected to an Xsan. Could this be related?
Any ideas?

we tried manual and dhcp IP.
It doesn't create a local database. It's keeps saying there's an error.
There are running 2 IP adresses on this machine because of Xsan.

Is there a reason you need to create a database ? You should just use the default database which is a local database on the Mac Pro.

When i don't create a database, and hit cancel. Choose new project. DaVinci instantly quits.

We've seen this problem on a few installations where the database does not install properly when you install resolve. Perhaps you are running into the same issue.
To solve this problem, please use the following steps:
1. Open a Terminal
2. sudo mv /Library/PostgreSQL /Library/PostgreSQL_old (enter password when prompted)
3. Re-install Resolve

Hey, colleague of Paul Jay here... moving away the /Library/PostgreSQL folder helpt, just to make sure others reading this without black belt in Terminal: you need to either run this command as root, so "sudo mv ..." or, just rename the folder in the Finder. Then reinstall Resolve, and it worked.
Mac we're running this on has dual ethernet connections (for Xsan setup), don't know if that's source of the issue, but just noticing it.

From the result, it is obvious, that it's the folder permission issue. So, why not just fix that, rather, than rename, reinstall etc?

I'm not sure about that. I've still got the renamed 'PostgreSQL-Old' folder around, and when I compare permissions on it to the newly created one by the fresh install, I'm unable to find any differences in permissions. Both belong to root, including the contents in the PostgreSQL/8.4/ folder. Within that folder only the /data subfolder belongs to the 'postgre' user account.

Hi,
Let me start by saying that I am not a professional, I merely installed Resolve Lite for learning purposes, and would not be able to answer any technical questions. I came across this database problem when first launching Resolve. I found the same solution on several threads involving the use of Terminal. As Daan Hermans said, some of us may not know how to use terminal. His solution worked for me. Here is what I did.
1. Rename the folder "/Library/PostgreSQL" to "/Library/PostgreSQL.bad"
2. Reinstall Resolve (There is NO need to uninstall first)
3. Relaunch Resolve and it should now work.
Again, this solution worked for me, without the need to run commands in Terminal (for those of us who are unfamiliar). Thanks Daan.
By the way I am on a 2012 Non-retina MacBook Pro 15 High-Res
